In an article published in the library and information science journal o-bib, Kai Matuszkiewicz, Patricia Blume, Lukas Hohendorf and Lydia Riedl report on FID Media’s takeover of the KOALA bundle Media Studies. The practice report shows how specialised information services can contribute to the financing of Diamond Open Access as discipline-specific consortium bodies.

Using the KOALA bundle Media Studies 2026–2028 as an example, the article describes FID Media’s collaboration with TIB, SLUB Dresden, KfL and Büchner-Verlag, the organisation of the pledging process, and the experience gained along the way. Particularly encouragingly, the funding target was not only reached in October 2025, but exceeded. The experience gained from this process is now feeding into the organisation of the pledging process for a further bundle, which comprises Diamond Open Access journals in communication and media studies. Pledging for the new 2027–2030 bundle will begin in a few weeks.
